Earlier this month, Microsoft quietly renewed the trademark to Scalebound, the promising Xbox exclusive title that was officially cancelled in January. It shouldn’t be too surprising to see Microsoft still protecting the trademark of the much talked about video game, though this morning you may have heard some positive rumors about Scalebound being back in development.
More precisely, Twitter user Xrays_Insider claimed that the action-RPG title initially developed by Platinum Games was now in the hands of another team close to Microsoft. Howerver, these optimistic claims have since been contradicted by Windows Central, which own sources confirmed that “Scalebound is not in development by Microsoft or a “trusted team.” Microsoft did not comment these rumors at the time of our writing.
Scalebound was initially unveiled during E3 2014, and the ambitious game was set to join the growing list of Xbox Play Anywhere titles. The news about its cancellation was obviously a huge disappointment for Xbox fans, though Xbox head Phil Spencer promised that 2017 would be a “fun year” despite the lack of blockbuster releases. E3 is just a few weeks away, so we won’t have to wait much longer to see what the Xbox team has in the pipeline.
