Last week, we learned that both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 were suffering from screen flickering, as well as battery draining while in standby mode. These issues weren’t happening to all Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 owners, rather it was only a select number of consumers who were affected.
Thankfully, Microsoft has listened and has rolled out a firmware update dated November 2nd (talk about fast response time!). Here are the details for the firmware update:
- HD Graphics 520 driver update (v18.104.22.16808) addresses some display issues, including some scenarios that result in screen flickering.
- Display audio driver update (v22.214.171.1249) supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver.
- Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v103.855.257.0) improves system stability.
- Surface Pen Settings driver update (v10.0.302.0) adds support for future functionality on Windows 10.
Microsoft notes that not every device will receive the update at once but every Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 will get the update eventually. Head over to Windows Update to snag it now — if you don’t see it available, try again another time.
Let us know if this update fixes the display flickering issue and/or the battery draining issue. Or if this update adds a new set of problems to your precious Surface Book or Surface Pro 4.Further reading: Microsoft, Surface Book, Surface Pro 4
