Twitter user provides sneak peek at revamped Windows 10 on-screen keyboard

A couple of days ago it was revealed that Windows 10 Mobile’s keyboard would be coming to Windows 10 PCs, complete with swipe and pen functionality. Well, one Microsoft leaker has just given the world a “sneak peek” at the upcoming keyboard, and it’s looking pretty good for those who have long requested it.

While it’s not exactly clear if Microsoft plans to bring this keyboard to the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, files for it have been spotted in Windows 10 build 16212, accidentally released last week. This Twitter user, who simply goes by the name of Indigo, managed to somehow offer up a look at the keyboard, and it should be very familiar to Windows 10 Mobile users.

Indigo provides a GIF of the keyboard in action, which shows that the swipe feature now works on Windows 10 PCs. Subsequent replies from Indigo have also indicated that the working version of the keyboard is compatible with the mouse, touch, and Surface Pen.

As we previously reported, this keyboard is supposedly based on Swiftkey, the UK company that Microsoft acquired in 2016. It also will be a unified component across Windows 10 devices, since it is a CShell TextInput component. And, given the fact that the files for the keyboard were spotted in the accidentally released build, it might as well end up being more official within the next few months.
