Final Fantasy XV on Xbox One

According to new sales figures released by GFK Chart-Track this week, only 21% of Final Fantasy XV physical sales were for the Xbox One version of the game. 79% were for Sony’s rival PlayStation 4 console.

It’s definitely a stark difference in the game’s popularity on the two main gaming console but it’s important to remember that it is just that, a report on this particular game’s success on consoles and not the console’s themselves.

It actually makes sense that there would be more Final Fantasy franchise fans on the PlayStation 4 as PlayStation consoles have traditionally had more Final Fantasy titles on them than Xbox consoles. PlayStation consoles, for example, has seen a steady stream of Final Fantasy video games since the launch of Final Fantasy VII on the original PlayStation back in 1997 but it wasn’t until Final Fantasy XI came out in 2002 on the Xbox 360 (as well as the PlayStation 2) that Microsoft got a taste of the FF pie.

As for the Xbox One console itself, it was actually the highest-selling video game console in the U.K. in 2016.
