Netflix will be embracing Microsoft’s HoloLens with support for HoloLens and VR devices on Windows 10

Netflix recently published a job listing seeking for a Windows Senior Software Engineer (via Variety), in this job listing, Netflix states its commitment to supporting Microsoft’s HoloLens and VR devices with its Windows 10 app. The job listing stated the following:

Netflix is the leading video streaming service globally, and the Netflix Windows application is one of the most widely used apps in the Windows Store. Our mission is to provide a great experience to all Windows app users in a variety of devices, from desktop/laptop, to tablets and phones, as well as HoloLens and VR devices. We are constantly focused on enhancing our consumer experience around the world by building out new product features and improving performance.

Additionally, a spokesperson for the company stated the kind of supporting they’re aiming for, which is in-line with their objectives for Google Daydream and Samsung Gear VR, saying “support in a basic way down the road.” Assuming they follow a similar route to their other VR apps, it will provide a theatre-like experience, however, current content will not be specially-adapted for those viewing on AR and VR devices.

With this in mind, it is safe to assume that Netflix will be bringing some support for the HoloLens and capable VR devices, even if limited to begin with.
