Vodafone demos holographic phone call using HoloLens and low latency 5G network

Microsoft’s HoloLens has done some pretty cool things before, and in the latest, Vodafone is showcasing how the headset can be used for holographic phone calls on a 5G network. As spotted by Engineering and Technology, the HoloLens was used in this situation to virtually link up a soccer fan with a Manchester City Women FC captain (via Reddit.)

The 11-year-old girl and the coach were over 190 miles apart from each other, but HoloLens connected the two and let them discuss football tips in front of a live audience. This showcased the remote coaching and training possibilies of HoloLens, especially on a 5G network which will be coming to seven UK cities next month.

HoloLens has been used across the world for various reasons, be it car development, museums, and even in the operating room. Safe to say linking up a soccer fan to her favorite soccer club is yet another use case for the headset. With the next generation of HoloLens on the horizon, it will be even better to see where it goes next.
