Microsoft is bringing Cortana to Skype on iOS and Android

Microsoft today announced that they will be bringing Cortana to Skype on Android and iOS. This will make it easier for Skype users to keep their conversations going, as the digital assistant will suggest useful information such as restaurants and movie reviews directly inside a Skype chat.

Starting today, Cortana in Skype is gradually rolling out to both iOS and Android users in the US only, so if you don’t see it at first, please be patient. The digital assistant will be added as a contact when it becomes available to users, meaning it can be found in the address book or chat screen.

Here’s a bit more on what Cortana can do in Skype:

  • When chatting with your Skype contacts, Cortana can suggest you smart replies that will pop up above the text box
  • Cortana can also create reminders for you when you’re discussing scheduling events or other things you’re planning to do.
  • You can also have one-on-one conversations with Cortana, just like you can do with other Skype bots.

Please keep in mind that you may need to enable Cortana to be a part of your conversations. To accomplish this, you need to tap Cortana from your chat screen and select Agree. Cortana also cannot be removed from your contacts, but you can remove it from the top of your recent chats by tapping and holding and selecting Unpin chat. Moreover, Cortana suggestions can be turned off in the chat by going to the settings, scrolling down, tapping on Cortana, and toggling the switch off.

Cortana is only available in chat and does not support voice and video calls. If you so happen to have access to Cortana on Skype, you can submit your feedback to the Skype Team to help them know what needs to be improved.
