The Windows 10 Desktop app updated to Version 1.5.12 today with the new blurred backgrounds option that was recently added to the iOS and Android versions.

Here’s the official release notes:

New in version 1.5.12:

  • Apply blur effects to backgrounds.
  • Use the backgrounds you set in Telegram Desktop in all other Telegram apps.

This new option is a little difficult to find as it isn’t actually a setting you can apply to a current background. Instead, it’s more of a filter that can be applied when choosing a new background image (see above).

To activate a blurred background, open Settings from the top-left menu, click on Chat Settings, choose a new image, and then tap on the new Blurred icon in the background preview screen.

Telegram is a popular chat app that has a strong focus on privacy and is currently developing its own cryptocurrency project called the Telegram Open Network (TON) which is expected to launch in the first half of 2019.
