Rocket League gets new mode as it readies 4th season of competition

A big content update is on the way for Rocket League, the widely popular car / soccer game from indie developer Psyonix (via VentureBeat). Coming later today are a new game mode, free Easter items and the launch of Competitive Season 4.

First of all, the new free game mode called Dropshot should give some serious challenge to players. “Dropshot is a brand new take on Rocket League gameplay as we introduce dynamic breakable floors and an electrified ball, all within the confines of a new hexagonal Arena, ‘Core 707’,” explained Psyonix in a previous blog post. “Instead of pushing the ball into your opponent’s goal, your objective is to destroy panels on the opposing team’s floor, and score goals through those gaps.” You can see how it works in the trailer below:

Today’s update also brings several free Easter items that will randomly drop post-match in all online playlists. “Players will have the chance to celebrate their spring enthusiasm with the Easter Egg Antenna, Easter Basket Topper, and for those jumping with excitement: the Bunny Ears Topper,” explained the company.

Free Easter items will start dropping today.

Last but not least, Competitive Season 4 is also launching today with new skill tiers, arena preference tweaks, new matchmaking ratings and more. You can get more details about the new season on the dedicated blog post.

The content update will be available today at 3PM PDT on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Steam, let us know in the comments if you’re looking forward to try the new Dropshot mode!
