Microsoft reportedly slashes the Xbox One's price by $80 in China ahead of Sony's PlayStation launch in the country

Microsoft has realized that by dropping Xbox One’s price it is able to lure in more customers. The price revision ahead of the holidays season and enticing deals on the Black Friday Xbox One — for the first time — outsell Sony’s PlayStation 4. The company now wants to use the same strategy in China.

It launched the Xbox One in China on September for RMB 4,299 for the Kinect and RMB 3,699 for without the Kinect bundle. According to the report, Microsoft has dropped the price of gaming console in China by RMB 500 ($80). Hence, the new prices are RMB 3,799 for Xbox One with Kinect, and 3,199 RMB for Xbox One without Kinect. The Xbox One Day One edition, however, is still priced at RMB 4,299.

The timing of the price drop is interesting as rival Sony is all set to launch the PlayStation 4 in the country. The price revision may help Microsoft put its console in more competing position. Sony recently announced that it will be launching its flagship gaming console in China on January 11, 2015 for CY 2,899 (£299 or $469).
