Visual Studio 2017, the latest version of Microsoft's integrated development environment is generally available today. On this occasion, the company announced some updates to other products in the Visual Studio family, such as the release of Visual Studio for Mac Preview 4.
For those unfamiliar, the Mac version of the IDE uses the same MSBuild solution and project format as Visual Studio 2017 for Windows, which means that developers can easily develop native, web and server apps on both platforms. In a separate blog post, former Xamarin CTO Miguel de Icaza shared the following details about the new release:
Visual Studio for Mac Preview 4 brings lots of new features, including updates to the Xamarin and .NET Core workloads. Preview 4 brings expanded project templates for .NET Core, as well as support for the beautiful new MSBuild .NET Core project format. The Xamarin workload has been updated to include a new iOS Audio Unit wizard, Android binding project operations, and other mobile tooling improvements. This preview also includes NuGet 4.0 support and tons of other bug fixes and performance improvements.
