Windows 7 still dominates in Windows market share, Windows 8.1 sees slight increase

We’re now beginning the fourth month of this year and its time to take a look at the market share stats for Windows. According to new data from Net Applications for the month of March 2015, Windows 7 is still the dominant Windows operating system, while Windows 8.1 continues to climb in market share.

Windows 7 holds a total market share of 58.04 %, an increase from last month’s 55.99% share, making it the most dominant desktop operating system for quite some time now. In fact, Windows 7 has continued to remain somewhat steady in market share since May of 2014. There is no denying that Windows 7 remains a popular choice for consumers.

Windows XP comes in second place with a total market share of 16.94%, a decrease from last month’s 19.15% share. Windows 8.1 rounds out the top three with a market share of 10.55%, an increase from last month’s 10.49% share. Windows 8 has a share of 3.52% while Mac OS X 10.10 has the exact same share of 3.96%. Linux, on the other hand, has a share of 1.50%.

While it’s still too early to judge, Windows 10 has appeared in the data provided by Net Applications. According to the data, Windows 10 has a market share of 0.09%, an increase from last month’s 0.08%. Again, it’s too early to judge Windows 10 since it’s only currently available to testers and has yet to be publicly released.
