Microsoft has been upping its partnership game recently, announcing new deals with Sony, with Oracle and Adobe, and even with Ninja. Now, according to Mary Jo Foley, an "expanded partnership" with Samsung could bring Microsoft phone apps like Your Phone and Office apps pre-loaded onto Samsung phones.
Samsung has an event in New York City next week they're calling Samsung Unpacked, and word is that Microsoft will be on the stage, according to Foley:
Microsoft will be on stage, I'm hearing from my sources. Microsoft will be demonstrating how its various Office apps and its Your Phone companion app will work on the coming wave of Samsung phones, sources say. (Will we see a Galaxy Fold demo from Microsoft, too, ahead of the Fold's September launch? I don't know, but that would be interesting.)
As noted in the post, rumors have been swirling that some at Microsoft are pushing to release a Microsoft-branded Android phone, but partnering with Samsung to get Microsoft's apps like Your Phone pre-loaded on the world's most popular phones could be an easier and safer route to climb back into the mobile market.
We'll be checking out the Samsung event and keep you posted.
