Ian Mikutel, Senior Product Manager, Microsoft Whiteboard, Microsoft OneNote) announced the news on the dedicated UserVoice website today, saying that “more background options, including a dark ‘blackboard’ option” would be coming “soon.”

Adding a dark theme option to all Microsoft apps seems to be a real trend these days. File Explorer, Microsoft To-Do and Sticky Notes are three noteworthy examples on Windows 10, and we also learned earlier this week that Office for Mac was getting a dark theme option as well.
As the original piece of feedback highlighted on the Whiteboard’s suggestion portal, a “blackboard” mode really makes sense on the Surface Hub, a device sized like an authentic blackboard. However, more background options will definitely be welcome on all platforms where Microsoft Whiteboard is currently available.
