Microsoft is breaking with tradition this Saturday and Sunday but throwing a Free Multiplayer Weekend that will be open to all Xbox 360 and Xbox One users, not just the subscribers of the paid Xbox Live Gold services, which is usually the case.

For the most part, Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners have to pay for the Xbox Live Gold subscription to use the online functions of most games such as online multiplayer. This campaign seems to be an attempt to show gamers just how good online games can be and encourage subscriptions once the free sample is finished.

The Free Multiplayer Weekend will run from the 9th to 12th of June 2016 to allow for all regions to participate. Microsoft’s Major Nelson recommends Rocket League as a good online multiplayer game to try but other ideal titles would also be any of the Forza games, Destiny, Doom, and the online modes in the popular Call of Duty series.
