Microsoft to hold fan event, but won’t exhibit at this year’s Tokyo Game Show

According to a report from Japanese website Game Watch (and as we reported about a month ago), Microsoft definitely won’t hold a booth at Tokyo Game Show 2016 in September (via Gamespot). Microsoft Japan recently announced the news during a press event at its Japanese headquarters, though the Tokyo Game Show website currently lists Microsoft Japan as one of the exhibitors in the event’s Business Solution Area.

This year will actually be the second time in a row that the company doesn’t exhibit at the Japanese gaming event, which is similar to E3 but is much smaller in scale. However, Microsoft Japan plans to once again host an “Xbox Big Thanksgiving” event in the country in October, but the company has yet to share more details about dates and venues.

Tokyo Game show runs September 17-18, just a month after Gamescom 2016 in Cologne, Germany where Microsoft will hold an Xbox FanFest experience for Xbox fans but no media briefing this year.
