Microsoft has released a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3

Microsoft recently released a new firmware update for the Surface Pro 3. The firmware update originally launched on August 16th, and only recently appeared on the Surface Pro 3 Firmware Update page (via Neowin)

According to the listing, the latest round of updates is aimed for devices which are still running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. Five specific compatibility changes are mentioned, most aimed at support for new Surface accessories. Here is what you need to know if you so happen to see the updates become available on your device.

  • Surface – System – 3.0.0.0: Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – HID – 1.0.173.1: 1.0.173.1 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – Biometric – 2.2.11.0: 2.2.11.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – HID – 1.0.2.0: 1.0.2.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.
  • Surface – Keyboards – 1.1.504.0: 1.1.504.0 Enables support for Surface Pro Type Cover and the Surface Pro Signature Type Covers.

Microsoft lists this update as adding no security, reliability, connectivity, performance, or battery life improvements. The last time the Surface Pro 3 received a firmware update was in June of 2017, then mainly focused on improving battery life during sleep mode.
