Hello, everyone, and welcome back to OnPodcast: The OnMSFT.com Podcast. If you’re new here, this is our weekly podcast series featuring our contributing writers, Kareem Anderson and Arif Bacchus.

This week for our 27th episode, we had a lot to talk about once more. We started with a look at the new icons in the Windows 10 File Explorer. We then moved on to talk about rumors of Microsoft buying Discord. Finally, we ended with a look at the new Xbox Network branding, as well as some news about Xbox Live.

For the Week Ahead, we teased an upcoming MOVO UM700 microphone and Vissles-M, 15.6-inch Portable Touchscreen Monitor product review. We also got into Microsoft’s campus reopening, and other topics, too.

Topic 1: New look for icons in the Windows 10 File Explorer

Windows 10 File Explorer New Icons-podcast

Our first topic was the biggest news of the week for most people — new icons in the Windows 10 File Explorer. Arif and Kareem looked at the new icons and offered their thoughts on how this could move Windows 10 forward. There was talk about SunValley, Windows 10X, and a lot more. They even discussed when they’d think the new icons would roll out to everyone else, outside of the Insider program.

Topic 2: Microsoft wants to buy Discord

Discord

The second topic of the Podcast was another big story that was trending on Twitter for quite a while this week — Microsoft being interested in Discord. Knowing Microsoft’s past troubles with buying up companies, Arif and Kareem talked about how Discord could fit in with Microsoft’s business efforts. Xbox, Windows, Teams were just a few topics they discussed in relation to Discord.

Topic 3: Xbox Live rebrand to Xbox Network

Xbox Network

The final topic on the shoe relates to Xbox. Microsoft rebranded Xbox Live to Xbox Network, and Arif and Kareem talked about what the move means for the future of Xbox. At the same time, Microsoft also announced that free-to-play games no longer require Xbox Live Gold. Once again, our hosts talked about if this is good for gamers.

Week Ahead:

The OnPodcast ended with the traditional Week Ahead segment and a look at some topics we expect to be big next week. That included a look at an upcoming MOVO product review, as well as the Vissles-M, 15.6-inch Portable Touchscreen Monitor. They also talked about Microsoft reopening its campus after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, we announced the winners of the Headspace giveaway. Congrats to Arthella V, and Tonya R! You’re the lucky winners!
