Along with the announcement of the Xbox One, it appears the new console will not be able to play older Xbox 360 or Xbox Arcade games. Yes, this means everything you play on todays Xbox will not work on the new console. Sad, but true.

It isn’t possible for the Xbox One to be backwards compatible because the Xbox One uses an x86 architecture, the Xbox 360 uses an older PowerPC-based architecture which does not run on the Xbox One. Don’t worry though, as Microsoft have said that they are planning to continue to support the Xbox 360 well into the future with updates, games and all that good stuff.

The Xbox One is out “to play an entirely new generation of games — games that are architected to take full advantage of state-of-the-art processors and the infinite power of the cloud.” states Microsoft.
