Windows Defender extension for Google’s Chrome browser released

Even though Microsoft still claims that its Edge browser is safer than Google Chrome, the company has quietly released a Windows Defender extension in the Chrome Web Store (via The Verge). The new Chrome extension promises to offer additional protection against malware and phishing websites, and it does so by using the same technology built in Microsoft Edge and Windows Defender.

After installing the Chrome extension, it will add a real-time indicator of harmful sites and website status to the browser. Windows Defender Browser Protection uses a continuously updated list of malicious websites to warn you when you click on malicious links in emails or visit a website that as been reported as dangerous.. In that case, you’ll see a red warning screen with a big “Back to safety” button.

Google Chrome can already protect you against from dangerous websites, but if Chrome is your browser of choice you may want to check out Microsoft’s new Chrome extension for extra safety. You can also easily turn the extension on and off by clicking on the dropdown in the Chrome menu.
