Microsoft has just made its latest version of Windows 10, the May 2019 Update, available to the general public through a gradual rollout which will eventually make its way to all PCs. The company wants to make sure to avoid potentially another epidemic like the file deletion issue in the October 2018, which is why most individuals who check for updates manually in Windows Update might not quite see it available yet.
The good news is that anyone who is more interested is getting the latest and greatest out of Windows 10 than ensuring the stability of their machines can choose to upgrade manually with ease. Of course, we recommend that you first check the Windows release health dashboard for known issues and driver incompatibility issues before you dive in, that way you can best avoid or at least be prepared for major inconveniences. That said, if you’re still interested, the process is very easy.
First, you’ll want to download the Windows 10 Update Assistant straight from Microsoft’s website. From the Downloads folder, just open up Windows10Upgrade9252.exe.
The Windows 10 Update Assistant will launch, and verify that you’re running and older version of the operating system, and that the latest version 1903 is available to install. From here, it’s a simple as clicking Update Now.
Assuming your device is compatible with the May 2019 Update the download will begin automatically or you can speed though the process by hitting Next. Once its complete, you should be all set to restart your computer and begin the full upgrade, which could take several minutes to complete. If you’re running into problems, be sure to check the Windows release health dashboard, which might explain some of the issues that are causing the update to be blocked.
