Windows 10 Insider app updates will reappear before Fall Creators Update is released

Yesterday’s Windows 10 Insider Preview build 16232 released a chunk of new features to the Fast ring alongside Windows 10 Mobile build 15228. As the team moves forward towards the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, Dona Sarkar also noted the that Windows 10 native app updates are being paused.

“This means that Insiders will not receive app updates from the Windows Store for our inbox apps that are newer than the apps included in the build,” she explained in the announcement blog post. Notably, this is a lot further away from the release than earlier this spring when Insiders had to wait until the Creators Update launch. Sarkar promised that Insiders would start receiving app updates in the ‘very near future’ leaving some to wonder just how far away the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update might actually be.

Thankfully, speculation was cleared up when Brandon LeBlanc of the Windows Insider Program Team replied to our Kip Kniskern via Twitter:

We are going to provide a solution to get app updates again BEFORE the Fall Creators Update gets released.

LeBlanc also followed up explaining that the team needs solid inbox apps in preparation for the public release. “App updates will flow again,” he assured another user.

No further details has been revealed quite yet about how or when the Insiders will update native apps before the expected September release, but it’s nice to know that the pause is only temporary. Particularly for those Insiders like us that enjoy being on top of the raw updates.
