The mobile app store for Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones goes offline today

As we reported back in October, Microsoft will be shutting down the app store for all Windows phones running Windows Phone 8.1 and under.
Once the store is taken offline, users will be unable to download any apps and will be restricted to only using those that are currently installed on their devices.

Fortunately, this means that those who still have a Windows phone running the Windows 10 Mobile will still be able to download apps for a few more months. It’s important to emphasise, though, that official support for Windows Phone 8.1 mobile phones has ended and support for Windows 10 Mobile smartphones will cease next month.

All current owners are encouraged to switch to an alternative smartphone such as an iPhone or Android device for improved security and functionality.
