Darth Vader in Star Wars Rebels

Fortnite fans have been wanting Darth Vader to be added to the game for a while now and last week, during the Unreal Engine 5 presentation, it looked as if their prayers might be answered as eagle-eyed viewers noticed a clue relating to the name of the famous Star Wars villain (hero?) on a computer screen.

The presence of a folder called C3S3_VADER on a Fortnite dev’s screen was a pretty strong indicator that Darth Vader would be coming to the game sometime during its next season of content, Chapter 3 Season 3, but it could also have been a joke on Epic Games’ part or even just a random name chosen by someone on the dev team to misdirect viewers.

A few days later though, a leaker with a solid track record of leaking unannounced Fortnite game details confirmed that not only would Darth Vader be added to Fortnite in Season 3 but that he’d also be a boss of some kind on the game’s map for players to battle.

Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 3 is currently planned to start in early-June which does unfortunately miss the May 4th date that’s usually used for Star Wars-related promotions and fan celebrations. This release window does, however, tie-in very well to the debut of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series which is set to launch in late-May and continue throughout June with new episodes on a weekly basis.

Darth Vader is also confirmed to appear in the Obi-Wan series which makes the leak about his addition to Fortnite even more believable that it already is.

It’s unclear if other characters from the series, such as Obi-Wan himself, are planned for an appearance in Fortnite though it is worth noting that the screen shown in the Unreal Engine 5 presentation does also list Indiana Jones as another addition for Chapter 3 Season 3.

There are also folders named after Doom and Family Guy which likely means that characters or items from those two franchises are planned for some Fortnite promotion in the future as well though neither folder makes mention of a chapter or season.

Fortnite has an established history of collaborations with Disney-owned properties with Marvel Comics, Aliens, Predator, and Star Wars being the more notable ones. Unfortunately, players have yet to be blessed with a Disney Princess x Fortnite collaboration though one can wish upon a star.

In other Fortnite news, the game recently added a bunch of content inspired by the Assassin’s Creed franchise and also raised over $144 million in support of Ukraine.
