Skype follows Microsoft Teams by bringing Together mode to 1-on-1 calls

Microsoft is bringing one of its popular meetings features over to 1-on-1 calls in Skype this month. Luis Carrasco, Head of Product - Skype, has recently announced on Twitter that Skype now supports Together mode for 1:1 calls.

Microsoft recently updated Teams to make its Together mode feature work with as few as two people during meetings, but Skype now matches match Microsoft Teams’ ability to use AI to digitally place both participants of a video call in a shared background. This means that users can now see each other in the 1-on-1 call as if they are in the same coffee shop or classroom.

To try out this feature, you will need to click the Switch View button available at the top right corner of the screen and then select Together Mode from the list. Once clicked, Skype will prompt you to choose your scene first and finally click the “Apply” button to enable it for both video call participants.

Alongside this new Together Mode feature, Microsoft is also adding animated backgrounds feature for video calls and as well as customized call reactions. This update is currently only available for Skype Insiders across Windows, Mac, Linux, and the web.
