Sea of Thieves Human Cannonball guy sets Guinness World Record
It was quite an ambitious and risky marketing move, but the Xbox team and a fearless stuntman actually managed to pull it off. The Sea of Thieves Human Cannonball Launch is a total success, as David “The Bullet” Smith just broke the Guinness World Records title for the Greatest Distance Travelled as a Human Cannonball. You can see a video of this historical exploit in the tweet below:

The official Guinness World Records Twitter account has since sent some congratulations for this “explosively successful” attempt to defy gravity. Yes, Xbox and Sea of Thieves did make history just a week before the game’s worldwide release.
Congratulations to @Xbox , @SeaOfThieves and David "The Bullet" Smith on achieving a NEW record for farthest distance for a human to be fired from a cannon! This attempt was explosively successful 😁💥 https://t.co/Rv9VSVU9s2

We’re glad the marketing stunt was successful, as the Xbox really didn’t need a “Houston, we have a problem” moment ahead of the game’s release. Sea of Thieves is one of the most hyped games of 2018 so far, and the Xbox team has been pretty creative during that pre-release period. After launching a limited-edition custom controller that glows in the dark, the team just announced a treasure hunt for winning golden bananas, which looks to be a clever way to keep fans engaged ahead of the game’s release. Sea of Thieves will launch on March 20 on Xbox One and Windows 10, and it will be free to play with Xbox Games Pass.
