PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) recently crossed 5 million players on Xbox One, but the massively popular game is currently facing tough competition from Fortnite: Battle Royale. Epic Games’ take on the genre is free to play on all platforms, while the early access version of PUBG is a $29.99 purchase, with no free trial.

If you really want to know which battle royale game is the best, you’ll be able to play PUBG for free with Xbox Live Gold beginning Thursday, April 19 at 12:01 a.m. PDT to Sunday, April 22 at 11:59 p.m.

“During Free Play Days players will be able to download and play the full Xbox Game Preview version of PUBG including all multiplayer modes (solo, duos, squads),” the Xbox team explained on Xbox Wire. “Any Battle Points (BP) you earn during the Free Play Days period will carry over to the game should you purchase it when the Free Play Days period has ended.”

A brand new PUBG5 Pack has also been announced today, and it’s a $6.99 complement to the Varsity PUBG5 jacket awarded to players in March. This new cosmetic DLC includes an exclusive cap, long sleeved shirt, cuffed jeans and hi-top sneakers, and it will be available from April 19 through May 19.

The new PUBG5 Pack will be available for a limited time.

It remains to be seen if this upcoming free trial will push more Xbox gamers to purchase PUBG. The Xbox One version of the game is still in preview, but it receives frequent updates bringing new content as well as performance improvements. However, Fortnite: Battle Royale is slowly but surely taking the lead thanks to its new 60FPS mode, support for cross-platform multiplayer as well some incredible momentum on Twitch.
