In August, we reported on an issue that was facing Outlook users. The application would close almost immediately after being launched. Microsoft investigated the matter and identified that the issue occurred when the EmailAddress string data value under the Office identity is blank.

Microsoft further provided affected parties with three possible workarounds that would help them bypass the issue. Among them was signing in and out of Office which would in turn repopulate the identity registry settings.

The company had promised to come up with a permanent solution for the issue. And now, according to Microsoft’s blog post, the issue has since been fixed as highlighted below.

STATUS: FIXED

This issue is fixed in Current Channel Version 2209 (Build 15629.20156) and Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) Version 2208 (Build 15601.20158). As these builds get to the other channels the fixes will follow.

If you had previously encountered the above error and have upgraded to any of the mentioned builds do let us know how it goes for you and whether you are still encountering it. In other Outlook news, the Link Unfurling feature shipped to Public Preview.
