Office productivity suite celebrates its 25th birthday today, Microsoft offers a tribute

It is hard to believe that 25 years ago, Microsoft unveiled Office. Our work environment has evolved over the years and so has the company’s productivity suite. The traditional Word, PowerPoint, and Excel experiences have been joined with newer experiences like Office 365, Office Online, OneNote and OneDrive.

“Twenty-five years ago today, Microsoft launched Office, and ever since, Office has been helping people get things done in their work and personal lives. Of course the world is a very different place today than it was 25 years ago, and so is the way people work, but what is constant is how Office has evolved to help people work in new ways, to be more productive and focus on what truly matters,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

Office has come quite a long way — with Word allowing you to capture ideas, Excel to analyze data, PowerPoint to showcase plans, OneDrive to share those plans with anyone, and OneNote to take and organize notes. Office also features Lync, SharePoint, and Yammer to communicate and collaborate with those who matter the most, no matter where they are.

Microsoft’s latest Office productivity suite is Office 365, which is designed for the modern ways in which people work. It delivers personalized experiences and helps people be productive from any device, anywhere.

Over the next 25 days, Microsoft will be paying tribute to Office customers by launching a new series called “behind_the.docs.” This series will tell the stories of people using Office to improve their ideas and achieve remarkable things.

You can watch a tribute video to Microsoft Office, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the productivity suite.
