Nokia annouces the Lumia 610, addresses low-cost mobile market

Nokia has annoucing the Lumia 610 during the Mobile World Congress, a new handset with relative lower speficiation to address the low-cost market segment. The phone will be availabe in Quarter 2 of this year.

At the Mobile World Congress occurring in Barcelona, several mobile hardware makers are in attendance announcing new set of devices with enhanced imaging technology and quad core-supported processors. Nokia is also part of the show announcing five new devices with which of them a Windows Phone device, the Lumia 610.

The Lumia 610 is the latest addition to the Nokia Lumia Windows phone portfolio. While fledging device is not particular a high-hand device, with relative low specs and in some case lack of the windows phone features, it does address the low-cost device market.

“Aimed at young people who want an affordable introduction to Lumia and Windows Phone, the Nokia Lumia 610 provides easy access to social networks, web browsing, music, games, navigation and tens of thousands of apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace. It comes in four vibrant colors and will cost just 189, before taxes or subsidies, and is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter of 2012.” said Nokia on its official website.

The Lumia 610 offers a 3.7″ LCD display with a WVGA 800 x 480 resolutions. The phone comes with 8GB internal Memory, with 256 MB of available RAM with SkyDrive additionally offering 25 GB of cloud storage. The Battery performance is not that impressive but offer ample sufficiency with maximum talk up to 6.5 hours on the GSM type devices and one more additional hour for WCDMA devices. The Lumia 610 is able to stay in standby for 580h for GSM device and 530h for WCDMA handsets. For those with enjoy streaming and play music, the Lumia 610 will offer 7 hours and 35 hours of playback time respectively. The devices is also similar to the already-available Windows Phone with camera button, the volume keys, the customary back, Home, and Search key.

Nokia is not entirely clear regarding the availability of the new device, only stated that the phone will be available in the second quarter of this year with no date release. However, Nokia announces that the phone will cost only 189 euros (US$250).

With the Lumia 610, Microsoft and Nokia is addressing the low-cost market segment which is current important and even bigger compare to high-hand smartphones.
