Microsoft’s Edge browser gains picture-in-picture functionality on Android devices

The Microsoft Edge app updated today for Android devices. This latest update brings the web browser to Version 42.0.2.3333 and adds the new picture-in-picture functionality that had been in testing for a while now.

Note that this new picture-in-picture feature only works on Android devices running Android 8 and up so those with older devices will need to upgrade to a newer one if they want to try it. All of the additional bug fixes and improvements that come with this update will work on devices running Android 4.4 and up though.

The app won’t work at all on Android hardware running 4.3 and lower.

Here’s the official, very short, release notes:

Thanks for using Microsoft Edge! Picture-in-Picture mode is available with this update (on devices with Android 8.0 and above). This release also includes general bug fixes and performance improvements.
