Microsoft’s “bae interns” pitch a mistake, the company is taking steps to address it

We reported yesterday on a Microsoft recruiting pitch to potential interns that went viral. The story revolved around an email sent from the company’s recruiting team that was posted on Twitter and subsequently retweeted and liked by hundreds of astounded web denizens.

Here’s an example of the many tongue-in-cheek responses to the email:

We reached out to Microsoft to confirm the veracity of the email and to get their reaction, and they were kind enough to respond:

The email was poorly worded and not in keeping with our values as a company. We are looking into how this occurred and will take appropriate steps to address it.

And so, that should put the matter to bed. Every company has its share of online faux pas, and we appreciate the company setting the record straight and promising to address the issue. Let us know in the comments if you think Microsoft’s response is too little, too much, or just right.
