Microsoft Teams is beginning to receive a “pinned posts” feature that lets users pin important announcements and messages at the top of a channel. Mike Tholfsen, Product Manager on the Microsoft EDU team, announced on Twitter that the feature is beginning to roll out to all users globally starting this week.

In September, Microsoft updated its Teams roadmap to include plans to bring this new capability in Teams. With this feature, users will be able to pin any message or reply at the top of the channel window to appear in the channel information pane for all participants to see. To check if the feature is live, hover over a message in a channel, and click the three dots (. . .) menu. Finally, select the “Pin” option from the list, and then click the “Pin” button when prompted. Mike Tholfsen showcases the feature in a quick walkthrough video:

Prior to this update, it was challenging for users to keep track of important announcements, especially when hundreds of people participated in a discussion. The pinned posts feature comes in handy for both teachers and Team owners, making it easier for them to keep important information easily accessible for everyone.

Microsoft says that Office 365 Admins will be able to disable this option in channel moderation settings. Since the feature is gradually rolling out, so you may not see it right away. Tholfsen noted that the pinning experience should be fully available in late November.
