Microsoft announced on their Microsoft 365 roadmap that IT administrators will be able to purchase Teams Phone and Teams Rooms licenses from the device store in December 2023. Deploying and managing Teams devices will become easier for IT admins with this solution.

Currently, IT admins can only browse and purchase Teams-certified devices in the device store. This update will allow them to purchase Teams Phone and Teams Rooms licenses as well. This will streamline the purchasing process and make it easier for IT admins to get the devices and licenses they need.

The new feature will be available to all Microsoft Teams customers worldwide. It will be released in general availability in December 2023.

What does this mean for you?

  • If you are an IT administrator, you will soon be able to purchase Teams Phone and Teams Rooms licenses from the device store. This will make it easier for you to deploy and manage Teams devices.
  • If you use Microsoft Teams, you’ll soon have more device options. You will also be able to get the devices and licenses you need more quickly and easily.

This update, identified by Feature ID 180902, was added to the roadmap on October 23, 2023. The affected product is Microsoft Teams, and this change will apply to the Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) and GCC cloud instances, accessible via the web platform.

The rollout for this change is scheduled to commence in December 2023, making it a part of the General Availability phase.
