Soccer is the biggest sport in the world, and has already received attention from Microsoft in the past, it only makes sense that it’s being treated with some of the most advanced technology on the market. Sensoria, a clothing technology company founded by ex-Microsoft employees, is coming together in a partnership with Microsoft to make boots plugged into the Internet of Things that are built to help gather statistics in soccer games. The boots are meant to do a great many things, covering all of the bases that someone needs to have a comprehensive look at the teams and players that make up the sport.
The boots have a low-power tracking system built into them that doesn’t get in the way of actually playing, but still tracks information successfully. Sensoria will be working with Microsoft to gather heat maps of where each player is spending most of their time on the pitch. Along with being able to sense how a player is kicking the ball while passing or shooting, and taking other important biometric measures to make sure that coaches, and possibly fans in the future, have all of the information they want.
The Microsoft Soccer Dashboard will make it easier for coaches and scouts to equip each junior team’s player and make it easier for them to find the next Cristiano Ronaldo.
Statistics are comparatively limited when put up against what Microsoft and Sensoria are doing. Now, instead of just observing the actions of players on the pitch and recording them, we’ll have foolproof and extremely detailed information to bring to light. The new partnership means that scouts are going to have an easier time, as are coaches and players who want to improve themselves. Collecting data through these means is a huge step for the Internet of Things, and hopefully it’s going to catch on among the major worldwide soccer leagues.
