Microsoft announced last week the appointment of Cesar Cernuda as its new Corporate Vice President for Latin America. Cernuda will be in charge of six subsidiaries with more than 2,500 employees and 80,000 business partners and will also be responsible for all products and services that Microsoft currently offers in the region. More importantly, he will also have to help the company stay relevant in those markets and help local customers become more productive on their journey through digital transformation.
Cernuda, a 19-years old Microsoft veteran, first joined Microsoft Spain in 1997 after working at Software AG and Bank 21. He’s already familiar with Latin America as he previously served he served as Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Services for Microsoft Latin America before leading Microsoft’s business in Asia Pacific for the last three years.
The new CVP shared the following statement in the press release:
“I could not be more excited to return to Latin America, one of the most dynamic and exciting regions for Microsoft and a part of the world that is familiar to me and which I am passionate with. I look forward to help our customers in the region to accelerate their digital transformation. “
While Microsoft has been present in Latin America for over 30 years, we reported a few months ago that the company recently closed several Microsoft Stores in Brazil, a market where Windows phones did enjoy some decent success before the company scaled back its efforts recently. This led Windows Phone fans in the country to launch an online protest over the last few weeks, and we’ll see if the new leadership will address the lack of new mobile offerings and retail stores in the region in the coming months.
