Skype for Windows 8

Microsoft rolled out the Windows 8.1 Preview yesterday and one thing was immediately noticed upon installation. The Messaging app was no where to be seen. Turns out, Microsoft is killing off the Messaging app in favor of Skype.

According to a new report, Microsoft is looking to bundle Skype into the final version of Windows 8.1. The current preview build of Windows 8.1 does not include the Messaging app, which was included since the launch of Windows 8 back in October of 2012.

For those of you on Windows 8.1 Preview, you will notice that Skype has been integrated into the operating system with improvements made to the voice and video call feature of Skype via the operating system’s lock screen. Skype for Windows 8 will also be a downloadable desktop app, but the Metro/Modern version will have seamless integration with the operating system.

Will anyone miss the Messaging app?
