It seems like Microsoft is probably ramping up for a wider release of its Mixed Reality and HoloLens technology, as the company has recently hired an Ex-Apple executive to work with its Mixed Reality team.

In a recent development, Ruben Caballero, who previously worked as the vice president of engineering at Apple until early 2019, has now updated his LinkedIn profile (via Bloomberg) to indicate that he is now working as a Corporate Vice President at Microsoft. The LinkedIn profile suggests that Caballero is working on Microsoft’s hardware including the HoloLens mixed-reality headset. The LinkedIn profile describes his new role as follows:

Mixed Reality & AI Division – HoloLens, Special Projects and more to come….

Caballero used to be in charge of Apple’s wireless technology, including antennas that are embedded in iOS devices such as Macs, iPads, and iPhones. In addition, the former Apple exec was also responsible for the company’s global wireless product testing division.

However, it would be interesting to see how Caballero will be helping Microsoft in its efforts to boost its Mixed Reality and AI division, while Alex Kipman remains a Technical Fellow for Cloud and AI at Microsoft. Do you think that Microsoft is finally ready to push its HoloLens hardware into the consumer space?
