Halo: The Master Chief Collection is getting its first update of the year today to celebrate the launch of Season 5, titled “Anvil.” With the new season comes timed nameplates to unlock, timed seasonal challenges, and new Battle Pass content, and you can see some of the new cosmetics in the trailer below.

Today’s patch is a pretty minor one, with a couple of bug fixes for Xbox and PC as well as the option to turn off new armors and weapon skins for Halo 3. “Today’s game update is more akin to a “hotfix” patch that is very lightweight,” the team said today, and you can expect an install size of up to 9.9GB on Xbox consoles.

Halo: MCC’s Season 5 will run for approximately 2 months. With this new Season system, players can earn Season points by completing daily, weekly, and seasonal challenges, and spend these points to unlock over 100 cosmetic items in total. “Season Points are retained indefinitely and can be used on any and all previous seasons interchangeably,” 343 Industries explained.

In case you missed it, the Halo anthology now supports cross-play multiplayer across Xbox and PC, with the ability to opt for input-based matchmaking. Halo: MCC is free to play with Xbox Game Pass for PC and Console, and PC players can also purchase it on Steam.
