Several small Windows tablets have made their way to the market in the past few months, especially the 8-inch ones. Recently, Croma, a consumer retail store in collaboration with Intel has launched two new pocket-friendly tablets for the Indian market — an 8-inch Croma 1179 and a 2-in-1 Croma 1177 tablet.
Starting with the Croma 1179, it rocks an 8-inch display sporting a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels with 160ppi pixel density, and comes with an Intel Atom processor Z3735D clocked at 1.33GHz. There’s 2GB of RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card slot — the company didn’t mention the amount of expandable storage it supports, but it’s not too far-fetched to assume it can handle a 32GB card.
To make sure there’s enough juice for the tablet, there’s 5,000 mAh battery on board. On the software side, it comes with Windows 8.1 as its operating system. Other features include WiFi connectivity, support for 3G dongles and a 2MP rear/front camera for photos and videos. As far as the pricing is concerned, it comes with a Rs 13,990 price tag (almost $230).
Second in the list is a 10.1-inch two-in-one tablet dubbed as Croma 1177, which comes with a detachable keyboard as well. It features a 10.1-inch display with an unknown resolution, the same Atom Z3735D SoC with 2 gigs of RAM, a 2MP rear/front camera, 3G/WiFi connectivity, Windows 8.1 as its operating system, and comes with a Rs 21,990 ($360) price tag.
Spec-wise, both tablets are almost identical except the larger display as well as support for a detachable keyboard. More importantly, the tablets come with an affordable price tag so it could get some recognition in the Indian market.
