Cortana app on Android gets a new refreshed UI in India

Abhishek Baxi

In India, Microsoft’s personal assistant, Cortana, has been available as a preview app since a while. It is listed on the Play Store as ‘CoA Preview’. The app has just been updated and the latest update (version 2.1.6) sports a refreshed UI.

Available in four color options – purple, blue, green, and grey – the new UI looks beautiful and the bigger text adds to the visual appeal. There’s no hamburger menu now, but there is a grid for quick actions which is a handy way to access all of Cortana’s capabilities. The speech recognition window too has a new design. The performance too is improved, and it is definitely faster and more smooth than before.

Now, you can also create a new account on Cortana using your phone number and SMS. This is a similar approach as has been introduced in Skype Lite which again is made for India.

According to the changelog, the latest update also brings improved location detection to the app.

Do you use the Cortana app on your Android smartphone? How has your experience with the digital assistant and what are your thoughts on the design refresh? Tell us in the comments.
