Microsoft is getting ready to make free-to-play multiplayer games on Xbox consoles truly free, and all Xbox Insiders can now play these games without an Xbox Live Gold subscription. Indeed, the latest Insider build for Omega Xbox Insiders released yesterday drops the Xbox Live Gold requirement for Multiplayer in Free-to-play games, as well as Looking 4 Groups and Party Chat.

These service changes previously rolled out to the Xbox Insider Alpha, Beta, and Delta rings, but the Omega ring is the only one that’s open to all Xbox gamers interested in testing new features shortly before they become generally available. To join the Xbox Insider Omega ring, you’ll need to download and launch the Xbox Insider Hub on your console, Select Insider content, Choose System, then select Xbox One Update Preview.

The Xbox Live Gold requirement for free-to-play Xbox games is expected to go away with the next system update to be released on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles later this month. However, some games including Destiny 2 and Call of Duty Warzone will require an update to support the upcoming service change for free-to-play multiplayer games.
