Yet another major app is being updated today. Microsoft has announced the availability of the updated YouTube app for Windows Phone 8, which features a complete redesign.
“The Windows Phone 8 version of the official YouTube app is getting a major update this morning; The app has been completely redesigned to make the most of Windows Phone 8 features. If you already have it, watch for an update notification on your phone,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.
This app features a lot of new stuff. Just to highlight, the YouTube app now allows you to pin videos, channels, playlists, and search results directly on to your Start Screen. There is also a new and innovative playlist design that gives you easy access to videos using a touch-friendly filmstrip.
With this update, several areas of YouTube are now easier to manage, including your profile, playlists, uploads, and video lists. Users can also select YouTube to Kid’s Corner in Windows Phone 8 to limit content based on YouTube Safety Mode settings.
By the way, who remembers the issue from earlier this year between Google and Microsoft about having this app come to fruition? “We continue to be dogged by an issue we had hoped would be resolved by now: Google continues to prevent Microsoft from offering consumers a fully featured YouTube app for the Windows Phone,” Microsoft stated back in January of this year. So it seems that this is no longer an issue.
