Yammer apps on iOS and Android can now be managed with Intune

Microsoft’s enterprise-grade social network suite Yammer is getting a security boost as the company combines its various apps with support from its premier mobile device and application management service. According to the Yammer team:

Today, we’re excited to announce an update to the Yammer apps for iOS and Android that allows IT administrators to protect their corporate data using mobile application management (MAM) controls in Microsoft Intune. Using Intune, organizations can provide their employees with access to corporate apps, data and resources on their personal mobile devices while protecting their corporate data with a rich set of mobile device management, mobile application management and PC management capabilities delivered from the cloud.”

The immediate benefit of the updated support enables administrators to apply different policies for individual Yammer apps. Now, administrators can enforce policies such as PIN or corporate credentials when accessing data or information flowing through a Yammer app. In the event that data, information, or a conversation needs to be remove from an app, administrators can also remotely wipe content.

Another added benefit of today’s update is that policies are made available for use in devices enrolled in mobile device management (MDM) as well as potentially unmanaged devices with the use of Intune’s MAM. For businesses that encourage BYOD, the MAM option without enrollment is an excellent way to remain securely vigilant while maintaining a level of flexibility.

The updated support extends to Yammer apps in the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store, starting today.
