Yahoo takes a page out of Google’s playbook, undergoes spring cleanup
Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer is taking a page out of Google’s playbook by undergoing spring cleanup yet again. Basically, any product that has not been successful gets removed from the company lineup. The victims for this years spring cleanup? Yahoo Avatars and Yahoo app for Blackberry (among others) get the cut!
“In other cases, after much thought and deliberation, we decide to shut down some products. Before making these decisions, we look at a variety of factors. The most critical question we ask is whether the experience is truly a daily habit that still resonates for all of you today. Ultimately, we’re making these changes in an effort to sharpen our focus. By continuing to hone in on our core products and experiences, we’ll be able to make our existing products the very best they can be,” Yahoo stated in an official blog post.
Beginning April 1st of this year, Yahoo will no longer support Yahoo Avatars. For those who use this feature, you can snag your existing avatar from the Avatars’ download page. Yahoo is also removing support for the company’s BlackBerry app. Yahoo Clues, which was a way to explore interesting patterns, will also no longer be supported. Yahoo App Search and Yahoo IQ will also be removed as well as the Message Boards website. Dont worry though, Yahoo Answers will still be up for support. Begining April 16th, the Updates API will no longer be supported.
