During a special Gears of War 4 live stream event to promote the release of the latest title in the video game franchise, Gears of War 4, studio head, Rod Fergusson, confirmed plans for a live action Gears of War movie. There is currently no cast, director, or script as of yet but Fergusson did reveal that the film would be made as part of a partnership with Universal Studios.

A Len Wiseman-directed Gears of War movie was originally planned from New Line Cinema who had purchased the film rights to the franchise but development apparently halted around 2010 when Wiseman left and the budget was reduced.

Gears of War won’t be the first Xbox video game series to receive the live action treatment. There have already been several live action Halo projects with a new Steven Spielberg-produced Halo series in active development planned for release sometime in the near future.
