Xbox Cloud Gaming shifts to Xbox Series X hardware and officially launches on Windows 10 and iOS

Following a private beta that kicked off in April, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members in 22 markets can now access Xbox Cloud Gaming on Windows 10 PCs and iOS devices via the web, Microsoft announced today. The cloud gaming service is now generally available on xbox.com/play on Microsoft Edge, Chrome, or Safari on your PC or mobile device, and it’s a big milestone in Microsoft’s journey to bring the Xbox experience to billions of new devices.

The company also confirmed today that it’s done upgrading its Xbox Cloud Gaming servers with custom Xbox Series X hardware, which should significantly improve the gaming experience with faster load times, better graphics, and improved frame rates. These server upgrades were done at no additional cost for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, which is really great.

“To ensure the lowest latency, highest quality experience across the broadest set of devices, we will be streaming at 1080p and up to 60fps. Going forward we’ll continue to innovate and add more features to enhance your cloud gaming experience,” Microsoft said today.

Earlier this month, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that Microsoft was working to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to new devices including TVs. Microsoft will partner with Smart TV manufacturers to launch an Xbox Cloud Gaming app for these big screens, and the company is also planning to launch dedicated streaming devices for older TVs that can’t connect to the Internet. Last but not least, Xbox Cloud Gaming is also coming to Xbox consoles, which will allow Xbox gamers to easily try games in the catalog before downloading them.
