While rumors are swirling around that Microsoft is already working on the next generation of its gaming console, it seems that Xbox 360, in its current form, is doing pretty well being the #1 selling gaming console for the month of September.
According to the latest data from NPD group, an independent market research firm, Microsoft has sold 438,000 Xbox consoles for the month of September making it the number one selling gaming console in the US surpassing both Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii for last 15 consecutive months. The data from NPD groug shows that the Xbox 360 control more than 40 percent of the current generation of gaming console.
In terms of the Xbox 360 software related sales, for both new and exclusive titles, the data from NPD group show impressive sale figures. NPD group data shows that “Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 held six of the 10 console game titles, including: “Gears of War 3,” “Madden NFL 12,” “FIFA Soccer 12,” “NHL 12,” “Dead Island,” “Deux EX: Human Revolution,” cited Jeff Meiser in the official Microsoft blog.
And Jeff also wrote that “”Gear of War 3,” which launched on September 20th, soared past three million copies worldwide in the first week, pushing the “Gears of War” franchise beyond $1 billion dollars in lifetime sales.”
It seems that Xbox 360 is poised to keep this momentum with exclusive titles that will be launched soon including: “Forza Motorsport 4”, “Kinectimals Now with Bears”, Dance with Central 2″, “Kinect Sports: Season Two”, “Kinect: Disneyland Adventures”, and the succesful “Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary”.
Microsoft will, soon, be releasing a new Metro-style dashboard UI that will bring an easy-to use user interface, some deep-integrated search service with bing, and an improved kinect voice and gesture control commands. Additionally, Microsoft, with the recently announced partnership with more than world 40 leading-TV providers (from Comcast, HBO, Syfy, Verizion FiOS, BBC, Telefonica, Televisa) will bring live streaming TV shows, sports, music. With all the exclusives titles, revamped dashboard, and Live streaming TV, the Xbox 360 will probably remain be the #1 gaming console for the upcoming holidays.Further reading: Microsoft, Xbox 360
