A new beta build of XBMC, an award-winning open source software media player and entertainment hub for digital media, was released recently and it brings with it numerous enhancements and several new features. In version 11 beta, we get to see add-on rollbacks and skin changes, to name a few.
For those that dont know, XBMC functions very well as a standard media player application for your computer. As the product’s website describes, “it has been designed to be the perfect companion for your HTPC. Supporting an almost endless range of remote controls, and combined with its beautiful interface and powerful skinning engine, XBMC feels very natural to use from the couch and is the ideal solution for your home theater.”
Other enhancements to version 11 of the media player program is a boost in speed due to enhancements to the “Dirty-region rendering,” as well as a new JPEG decoder, a simpler and better library, additional protocol handling, better networking support, better handling of un-encrypted BluRay content, adjustable display refresh rates in Mac OSX, AirPlay support, upgraded weather service, and more.
