Nokia Lumia 520 is one of the best Windows Phone handsets that hit the market, not in terms of hardware, but sales. The handset has been acclaimed as the best-selling Windows Phone device several times in the past. Earlier today at the Worldwide Partners Conference, Microsoft COO Kevin Turner revealed that the sales of the Lumia 520 have crossed 12 million since its launch, and is the best-selling smartphone in its price category.
Turner also mentioned that Nokia has an “incredible” product portfolio, and the company will try and keep pushing to make Windows Phone even more successful. The Redmond-based company also mentioned that they are also working with the newly added partners to launch Windows Phone devices across the globe — we’ve already seen Micromax, Blue, and a few others introduce their handsets powered by Windows Phone.
The Lumia 520 has since been replaced by the Lumia 630, but I’m not really sure if it will ever surpass the Lumia 520 in terms of sales. Lumia 630 does offer upgraded specs at an affordable price tag, but it still lacks in several areas — RAM to be the most important one. The Lumia 630 comes with the same amount of RAM as the Lumia 520, running on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 as its operating system, but is price good enough to justify the areas it lacks? I don’t think so.
It’s still too early to talk about the sales figures for the Lumia 630 since it barely went on sale in global markets a few weeks ago. At the moment, I’m going to ask you about your thoughts regarding the Lumia 520. I’ve used the device — it may not be able to replace your primary smartphone — but it’s still an excellent alternative for those who want to give Windows Phone a try.
